Hantavirus: Worse than Covid?
Jake Rosmarin, a passenger aboard the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius, posted a moving video asking for kindness and understanding.
It is easy to sympathize. These are real people, with families waiting at home. Nobody wants to be isolated in the middle of the Atlantic.
But here is what most people do not know. The virus spreading on this ship is not just any hantavirus. It is the Andes strain — the only variant in the hantavirus family known to transmit person-to-person.
It originated in South America, specifically Argentina, where the ship departed from Ushuaia on April 1, 2026.
As of today, 3 passengers are dead and 7–8 cases confirmed.
Africa Outbreak Alert
The MV Hondius is now stranded near Cape Verde, off the West African coast. The ship attempted to dock there — and was refused. It then tried the Canary Islands (Spain).
Three critically ill passengers were finally airlifted to the Netherlands and Germany. This is no longer just a cruise ship story. It is a geopolitical one.
Isolation Is Not the Enemy
Compare the numbers.
The Andes hantavirus kills approximately 35–40% of those infected. COVID-19 had a roughly 1–2% fatality rate — and it shut down the entire world.
Isolation here is not cruelty. It is survival protocol.

If this strain reaches shore in West Africa or the Canary Islands, President Trump (@realDonaldTrump) will face enormous pressure to restrict travel — and the media will immediately dust off the “racist” playbook they used in 2020.
