Merz Attacks America at Würzburg Catholic Congress — Then Calls Trump the Same Day

Today, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz shocked many by declaring he would not send his children to the U.S., citing a sudden "social climate." Said at the 104th Catholic Congress in Würzburg, his remarks reveal a pattern: Merz attacks America for domestic crowds while depending on U.S. troops for Germany's security.

Merz Attacks America — and Expects Us to Protect Him

Today, May 15, 2026, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (@_FriedrichMerz) attacked America in front of a live audience at the 104th German Catholic Congress in Würzburg, Bavaria.

Speaking to a youth panel of over 1,000 attendees, Merz declared he would not send his own children to the United States.

His exact words: “I would not advise my children today to go to the United States, to be educated there and to work there. Quite simply because a particular social climate has suddenly developed there.”

Merz attacks America publicly — and then calls Washington to talk strategy the same afternoon.

That is not leadership. That is performance politics for a domestic audience.

Grenell and Trump Fire Back

Richard Grenell (@RichardGrenell), Trump’s former acting Director of National Intelligence, responded immediately on X, calling Merz the “European President of the TDS Society.”

Then Grenell adds: “Germans have a leader who has no strategy — and is completely controlled by the German woke media.”

Grenell also noted that when Merz sat face to face with President Trump (@realDonaldTrump) at the White House, he was “completely soft and complimentary.”

The anti-American rhetoric only flows when Merz is playing to German crowds. Trump was blunter on Truth Social, telling Merz to fix his own “broken country.”

Merz Claimed Iran Won — Iran Is Actually Losing

This is not Merz’s first provocation.

Last month he told a German school audience that America had no convincing strategy in the Iran negotiations and that “a whole nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership.”

That claim was false then and it remains false now.

Iran’s air defenses are destroyed. Its military capacity is crippled. Its oil exports are choked by U.S. pressure. Its proxies from Gaza to Yemen are broken.

Merz attacks America with enemy propaganda while Iran bleeds out strategically.

Germany Is in Free Fall — And Lectures Us

Here is what Merz did not mention in Würzburg.

Germany is deindustrializing. Its manufacturing edge — built over generations — is eroding fast.

Its energy policy collapsed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Berlin still has no serious replacement.

Germany’s GNP per capita is lower than every single U.S. state, including the poorest ones.

Muslim immigration protests are a near-weekly occurrence in German cities.

Only 13% of Germans are satisfied with Merz’s government after one year in office, and his personal approval has dropped to just 16%.

Merz urges his own people not to think in “disaster mode.” But the disaster is his to own.

When a chancellor with 16% approval lectures America about social climate, that tells you everything about where Germany actually stands.

America does not need Merz’s approval. It needs allies with courage. 🇺🇸🛡️ #AmericaFirst #Germany #Geopolitics
