China Erupts After U.S. Ambassador Cabrera Calls Huawei Untrustworthy in Panama

Huawei is untrustworthy — that is what U.S. Ambassador Cabrera told Panama publicly. China erupted. But Panama just suffered cyberattacks on its Social Security system and Commerce Ministry. Huawei's founder is a former Chinese military engineer. Now his company operates near the Panama Canal. This is not business. It is a threat.

China Seethes over Huawei Warning in Panama

According to Breitbart, China’s embassy in Panama erupted this week after U.S. Ambassador Kevin Marino Cabrera (@USAmbassadorPAN) told Panamanian newspaper La Prensa directly:

“Companies like Huawei and that type are not trustworthy.”

Beijing accused him of “denigrating” Huawei and spreading rumors. Translation: he told the truth, and it stung.

The timing of Cabrera’s warning was not random.

Panama had just suffered a series of cyberattacks targeting its Social Security system and a Commerce Ministry entrepreneurship platform — critical national infrastructure.

Cabrera connected the dots publicly. Beijing’s furious reaction confirmed he was right to do so.

China’s Digital Trojan Horse in Panama

This is not new for the region. The U.S. has been warning Latin American governments about Huawei for years.

Huawei’s founder, Ren Zhengfei, is a former engineer of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. That is not a rumor — that is a biography.

President Trump (@realDonaldTrump) said it plainly when nominating Cabrera: “Few understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin.”

Ambassador Cabrera — born in Miami to Cuban exile parents who fled communism — understands exactly what Chinese authoritarian influence looks like.

Marco Rubio (@MarcoRubio) has echoed these warnings repeatedly across the region.

Trump’s Ambassador Exposes Beijing

The Panama Canal angle makes this story even more alarming. China already has significant influence over port operations near the Canal.

Now add Huawei’s 5G infrastructure running through Panamanian government systems.

When military-linked Chinese technology controls the digital backbone of the nation that controls one of the world’s most strategic waterways, that is not a business arrangement.

That is a national security threat.

As Reagan once warned: “Trust, but verify.” With Huawei — do not even start trusting.

Cabrera is doing exactly what Trump sent him to do. In doing so, he is also helping the security of Panama.
