Democrat Iran Obstruction: Senate Tries to Limit Trump’s War Powers on Iran

Democrat Iran obstruction hit the Senate floor Tuesday. A 50-47 vote advanced a War Powers Resolution to limit Trump's authority on Iran. Four Republicans broke ranks: Paul, Collins, Murkowski, and Cassidy. Seven previous attempts all failed. This one faces the same fate. The Dems know it. It is pure political theater.

Senate Dems Move to Block Trump’s Authority on Iran

The U.S. Senate voted 50-47 on Tuesday to advance a War Powers Resolution that would restrict President Trump’s authority to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional approval.

The Democrat Iran obstruction playbook was on full display.

The vote passed only because three Republican senators were absent and four broke ranks: Rand Paul (Kentucky), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), and Bill Cassidy (Louisiana).

One Democrat — pro-Israel Senator John Fetterman (@JohnFetterman) — voted against it, siding with the majority.

This was the eighth attempt by Democrats to advance a similar resolution. All seven previous attempts failed.

Democrat obstruction dressed as constitutional concern

Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) called Trump “a toddler playing with a loaded gun” before the vote.

That is not constitutional scholarship. That is political theater.

Democrats have pushed more than a dozen war powers resolutions since the Iran conflict began in late February 2026.

Every single one has failed.

They know the math. The resolution still needs a full Senate vote, must pass the Republican-led House, and faces a near-certain Trump veto — requiring two-thirds majorities in both chambers to override.

Democrat Iran obstruction is not about stopping a war. It is about generating anti-Trump headlines while the president was overseas in Beijing meeting Xi Jinping.

The timing was not accidental.

This resolution will not survive — and Democrats know it

The four Republicans who broke ranks represent the usual suspects.

Susan Collins faces a tough re-election in Maine. Rand Paul is a consistent libertarian on executive war powers. Lisa Murkowski and Bill Cassidy have well-established RINO reputations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio (@MarcoRubio) was direct: “The War Powers Act is unconstitutional, 100 percent” — a position shared by every president since the law passed in 1973.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (@PeteHegseth) told senators Tuesday that Trump already has “all the authorities necessary” to restart combat operations if needed.

The House has already defeated three similar resolutions this year.

This vote is theater. Strength wins. Obstruction fails.

Truth defeats political theater every time. 🇺🇸⚠️ #AmericaFirst #Iran #DemocratObstruction
